The EUCARIS Health Centre offers functionality in order to enable proactive system management. Via the Health Centre, server utilization, data throughput and performance is monitored continuously, so that measures can be taken to prevent performance or availability issues. Furthermore, disk and database usage can be measured, so that capacity problems can be discovered and dealt with.

With the Health Centre as data source, dashboards can be created to monitor the EUCARIS system’s performance and health, and diagnose potential problems. Furthermore, it will be possible to let the Health Centre alert a system administrator if certain events occur (e.g. if the server activity, data flow or disk usage rises above a certain threshold level). This helps system administrators to proactively manage the EUCARIS server(s), database and associated systems, in order to keep the availability high while decreasing the effort required to maintain the system.

More detailed functional documentation can be found here**.

Health Centre process

The Health Centre diagnoses the EUCARIS systems using a daily scheduled task. Every day, a new report is generated and available for external dashboards using the DiagnosticsRequest service.

It is also possible to review this daily report without the access or connection to a dashboard using the EUCARIS Configuration tool. A new option is available in the main screen of the advanced window: “System diagnostics”.

Task Reports

The Health Centre’s Diagnostics response can contain several reports, describing the problem and severity. The pages below describe the possible action required / advised to resolve the issue. Note: new reports will be added with subsequent releases of the EUCARIS core.

IIS Logging

A feature of the Health Centre is to collect and aggregate the IIS data on all EUCARIS nodes. The data from all EUCARIS instances is stored in the EUCARIS database on a hourly base. The EUCARIS Health Centre will use the collected and aggregated information for creating reports based on the metrics in these loggings.

Detailed information regarding the IIS logging can be found here.

Future releases

The following data/features are currently foreseen:

  • Visualize Health Centre findings in Management Client
  • IIS: Number and average size inbound requests per endpoint
  • System: Processor & memory utilization
  • Database: Total size, expected/projected growth
  • Database: Number of files and age of files in message log
  • Functional process: Show percentage of errors from legacy backend
