eCall is a European initiative intended to bring rapid assistance to motorists involved in a collision anywhere in the European Union. eCall will be mandatory in all new cars sold within EU after April 2018.

EUCARIS comes into play when after an eCall, the vehicle data of the vehicle(s) involved in the accident, must be obtained. Vehicles may be foreign, i.e. they may be registered in another country than the country where the accident has happened, so to find the vehicle a search all over Europe may be required.

The EUCARIS inquiry is launched from the 112 center to where the call is dispatched. An eCall inquiry is typically a Multi Country Inquiry on the vehicle’s VIN (Vehicle Identification Number).

It is also possible to make an eCall request by license plate. This inquiry maybe used if a bystander observes a specific vehicle in an accident, and reports the license plate number of this vehicle to a 112 center.
