Legal basis for the PTI service is Directive 2014/45/EU, on periodic roadworthiness tests for motor vehicles and their trailers.
The PTI service makes it possible to retrieve a roadworthiness certificate (PTIReport) from the Member State of Registration, either using the Vehicle Identification (VIN) of the vehicle, or the licence plate number issued by the Member State of registration.
Objectives of the retrieval:
1. To verify the roadworthiness certificate in a re-registration process.
2. To verify the roadworthiness certificate for enforcement purposes.
3. Reduce odometer fraud.
